WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The National Swine Registry announces the hire of Alan Duttlinger of Hebron, Ind., as Director of the National Junior Swine Association. In this position, Duttlinger will oversee the nation’s fastest-growing livestock organization, which consists of more than 11,000 youth 21 years of age and under who have an interest in the Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire breeds of swine.
Duttlinger will be responsible for managing national shows, scholarship programs and leadership conferences. He will also serve as a vision-caster for the NJSA, advise the NJSA board of directors, and assist with strategic planning and fundraising for the organization.
“Alan brings an enormous amount of enthusiasm and NJSA experience with him to his new position,” NSR CEO Darrell Anderson says. “His education, experience and passion for both the young people and the swine industry will allow Alan to serve very successfully as he leads NJSA to the next chapter in its history.”
A former NJSA member, Duttlinger holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Purdue University, and is finalizing a master’s degree in swine nutrition from Kansas State University. He previously managed the Segregated Early Wean Research Nursery at Kansas State University, as well as has been involved with his family’s swine operation and assisted with the management of various hog shows across the nation.
Duttlinger begins his work with the NSR at the end of January, when he will travel to Perry, Ga., to attend the NJSA Southeast Regional Show.
Lackey joins National Swine Registry as field representative
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The National Swine Registry announces the hire of a new field representative. Michael Lackey of Parker, Colo., will promote the purebred use of Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire swine as well as provide technical assistance to breeders primarily in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas, as well as other Western states.
“Michael brings to the position many years of experience in different facets of livestock production, and a real passion for the purebred swine industry,” NSR CEO Darrell Anderson says. “We are excited to have someone with his background and personality joining our team and representing the NSR and its members.”
Lackey obtained a master’s degree in animal science from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, and holds undergraduate degrees from Colorado State University and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. His work experience includes serving as an Extension Agent specializing in 4-H and Youth Development with Colorado State University, as well as working as the Livestock Judging and Pavilion Coordinator at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo. There he maintained a highly competitive livestock judging program and managed the college’s farm and meats lab, as well as taught courses in animal science and meat science.
