Share your volunteer skills at the SE Regional Skillathon!

An NJSA Skillathon volunteer
guides members through the
contest at the 2010 NJSS.

Attention NJSA parents and volunteers! We are still looking for helpers to facilitate the NJSA Skillathon contest at the 2011 Southeast Regional in Perry, Ga., on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Volunteers in the NJSA Skillathon are critical to create a successful experience for NJSA members competing in this educational contest. Skillathon volunteers oversee one of the four stations in the Novice, Junior, Intermediate, or Senior divisions of the competition. They moderate the flow of members through the contest and score answers, but moreover, volunteers serve to reassure competitors, provide assistance if needed without giving the answer, and encourage the members who are participating. Being a skillathon facilitator is very easy, and rewarding -- all it takes is a donation of your time!

Each volunteer will be provided a full set of instructions, along with an answer key to their station. Skillathon volunteers are one of NJSA’s most dedicated helpers, and the Skillathon is one of the many important educational events put on by the NJSA. In this contest, members have the chance to test their skills on topics including swine production, feedstuffs, genetics, pedigrees, breeds and meat cuts, just to name a few.

If you are able to dedicate your time to make this traditional NJSA contest a continued success, please email Sarah Schwab at sarah@nationalswine.com. Volunteers will need to report to the Skillathon contest area no later than 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22. Time commitment will be approximately three hours, or until the contest is finished.
