Sarah Schwab
NSR Junior Activities Coordinator
The National Swine Registry announces the hire of Sarah Schwab of Brookston, Ind., as junior activities coordinator. In this position, Schwab will work to organize and implement the activities of the National Junior Swine Association, the nation’s largest youth livestock organization, which consists of more than 11,000 youth 21 years of age and under who have an interest in the Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshire breeds of swine. The NJSA currently hosts nine regional and national swine shows, three leadership conferences, and oversees a variety of personal development and competitive programs for youth in the swine industry.

“We are incredibly excited to have Sarah on board,” said NSR CEO Darrell Anderson. “She brings a tremendous amount of experience in the livestock industry, judging and evaluation, and show circuits, and has a success record of project management and working with youth. Her personality and skill-set will be a great match for this position.”

Schwab obtained an associate’s degree in applied sciences with an agriculture-based curriculum in 2001 from Black Hawk College-East Campus near Kewanee, Ill., where she was a member of the livestock judging team. In 2003 she received a bachelor’s degree in horticulture with an emphasis on landscape design from Iowa State University. She also competed on the livestock judging team at ISU, was a member of Block and Bridle and provided leadership to the Northern Plains Club Lamb Association.

Schwab has worked at various greenhouses and landscape companies in Iowa and Indiana, with a positive history of increases in responsibility and management roles at each position. Additionally she worked as herdsman for the Kirkwood Community College beef and sheep farm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was employed at the Iowa State University Sheep Teaching Farm in Ames. She has assisted the NSR and NJSA at shows and events since 2009, and clerked the Indiana State Fair open swine show and sale in 2010. She currently serves as a volunteer 4-H livestock judging coach for youth in Big Creek Township, Ind.

Schwab will begin work at the NSR on Oct. 4. She can be contacted at 765.463.3594 or sarah@nationalswine.com.
